Do as I say, not as I do.

First of all let me say that I am not a whistle blower but I had to get this off my chest and it shows how difficult my job can be at times.

As a supervisor at my primary job (not the real estate business but the one that pays my bills) I am frequently required to preach about and uphold corporate values and standards. Recently we were sent a reminder to pass along to our workers and it dealt with taking gifts and getting favors from people that do business with us. The example they gave was: Is it ok to let a person who provides services to the company take you to a sporting event like a MLB game. Hmmm thats an interesting question. I know before reading the answer where this is going. The answer they gave is: NO it would be inappropriate because that might cause you to favor this company and do more business with them. Now I understand all this but here is the problem. My company buys tickets to big sporting events such as big tennis matches and gives them to prospective buyers in an effort to entice to do business with us. Now I am really confused. So its ok for us to try and shall we say Bribe others but don't you dare let anyone try and bribe you. I can do this, just use that "do as I say not as I do" approach like my parents did. :) So now everything is rosie again and this morning we get the "do what is right speech and along with it comes the financial statement of the CEO and well the hornets are stirring again. I could retire on one of his bonus'. Have a great day and I hope this little complaining session didn't bore you too much.

So many firms/people have double-standards.

I know and as a supervisor it is hard to get the people that work for you to do what is right when the people above you are doing what is wrong. Thanks for the visit and comments.

Sing it, Greg. Inconsistency is confusing and drives me (and you?) crazy.
