During my morning walk, ran across a family of geese. It was two adults and 4 little ones. As I approached, they just walked in the other direction. When I got closer, the male flew off and made a lot of racket trying to get me to follow him. I followed the others instead and soon the female flew off making the same noise. When I looked back where the little ones were, then had sat down in the leaves and were hiding. They sat there motionless while I took a picture but the moment I turned my back to walk away then took off and rejoined their parents in the river. It is a great plan unless I was a fox in or a hawk in which case I would have easily been able to pick them out of the leaves. I thought it was a great survival plan anyway.

Have a great day,

Is this thing working?

Is anyone out there?

Do you ever wonder if anyone is really listening to you? Hello, yes I am talking to you. I do wonder about this a lot. I know sometimes when someone is talking to me I will tune them out and not really listen. I don’t do that when it is something important though only when it is useless dribble. You know when it gets to that blah blah blah stage.

I have been dealing with this eye/stress problem for about 6 months now and telling everyone I know about it. The strange thing is it started right after I had a tooth surgically removed. Everyone said I was crazy for trying to tie the two things together but I had a gut feeling they were connected.

So yesterday I had a free moment and I again for the umpteenth million time did a Google search to try and self diagnose my problem. I stumbled across the web page about TMJ and guess what? It listed all my symptoms and said they could be caused by jaw misalignment from an oral surgery. Hmmmm didn’t I say that three months ago? Next I tried some jaw relaxing exercises that I found on another web site and my symptoms started to go away

Last night I called my sister just to chat and I told her I thought I may have found the source of my eye problems. As soon as I mentioned the correlation between that and my jaw she said TMJ. Now I know I discussed my theory with her before so why didn’t she say something back then. So next I go to DW and tell her the whole story from the beginning and guess what she said? You mean TMJ? Duh, am I the only one that didn’t know what it was called?

I may as well have been talking to a brick wall. I guess everyone knew about it but me. If you are listening have a great day,

Memorial Day

I hope everyone has a great weekend but please remember the reason for this day off. Many kids today don't know what it means except a three day weekend.

I took the boat out yesterday and had engine trouble. I left my depth finder at home and ran up on a sand bar and may have stripped a gear. Ouch. Now in my attempt to be positive, you might say I just lost that battle. There I was, drifting down the river and of course no one stops to help. (I picked a heck of a time to give up booze) I go to get my oars and guess what, they were at home too. I managed to get to the bank and walked the boat along until I got to a dock and then went up to ask for help. The man drove me back to the landing and I drove home and got my other boat and then took my BIL who has cancer with me and we towed the other one back home.

So where is the sunshine you might ask? Well while I was gone, the couple asked my wife to come up and sit on the porch. It turned out they were an older couple, in their upper 70's, had lost one son to leukemia, Had a daughter with mental problems and another son who moved away and were left there very lonely. My wife was the only visitor they had had in a long while and they really enjoyed the visit. My youngest son caught a nice fish off their dock too. This man was also a WW2 Veteran. So despite my boat troubles we met some really nice people and really made their day.

Blessed Memorial Day everyone.

One of Life's mysteries

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of participating in a team building exercise. Go team!!! Yea. How did that sound? Pretty impressive I'm sure. Anyway, it turned into a gripe session but I did learn that we all have one common complaint. We all hate having to deal with ignorant people. Don't hate me for saying that. I am not talking education here, I am talking about those people that shouldn't be allowed to breed. You all know the ones. As the saying goes, "The gene pool could use a little chlorine"

So what tops my list? Bad drivers. This morning on the way to work, this car approaches me from behind at a very rapid speed. I was driving 60 in a 55 zone on a dark, foggy, deer populated road. So this person gets right behind me and of course he has his bright lights on but he refuses to pass. A second before he was in a big hurry but now he is content to follow me and blind me with his headlights. This guy follows me for about 5 miles with many chances to pass. Then when I turned off, he hits the gas like I was holding him up. I may take the mirrors out of my car or paint the back window black.

have a great day,

Don't quote me

One of my favorite things to do is to reuse quotes from old movies. I like doing this because I can say something in jest and quote from a movie and if the person gets offended I just laugh it off as a joke. For example:

When one of my kids messes up, instead of yelling at them, I usually say: “There's no way, that you came from my loins. Soon as I get home, first thing I'm gonna do is punch yo mamma in da mouth.”

When my boss expects me to do something without telling me what I am supposed to do and later get mad at me for not doing it, I say: “What we have here is a failure to communicate.”

When my dear wife gets mad at someone and wants my opinion on what to do, I usually say: “let’s give em the old number 6.”

And when someone gets angry at me and throws a fit, I usually sarcastically say: “Lighten up Francis”

You have to guess the movies though.

I also hate clich├ęs and not just because I can’t spell the word. (thank you spell check). I often misquote them just to pick at people. My least favorite is “There are no stupid questions” So when someone says that I usually follow it up with “yea only stupid people.” Now before you jump on me for saying “stupid people” “walk a mile in my tennis shoes” If you had to sit through some of the meetings I do and listen to some of the questions that are asked you wound understand why I said that and also understand why brother and sister should never marry each other.

Have a great day,

The Education Meme

Tina tagged me with this so let me see what I can do. I think I am already behind in one assignment and I promise to catch up on all my lessons.

What was the name of the teacher that was most influential in your life from grades K through 6?

That would be my first grade teacher Mrs. White. I remember her being so nice and sweet and she made me feel comfortable being in school.

What subject did you favor in high school?

I loved math. We had a really strict teacher and everyone except me hated her. She would move along so fast that it was all I could do to keep up but I really enjoyed the challenge. I remember she would finish a lesson and say “moving along” and every hand in the class would go up. She gave us 15 minutes at the end of the class to start our homework and I would always finish mine. Then the others would copy it on the bus ride home. It was the only way I had to make friends.

Did you attend a university and if so, did you attain a degree?

No and No.

Do you learn best through books, by watching, or hands - on?

I can learn by any method but I think watching is best for me. Once I see how something is done, I remember it or better yet come up with a better way to do it.

Has education been an ongoing process for you? How do you feel about that?

Yes I learn something new every day. I have to, to make up for what I forget every day.

What seven people are you tagging to do this?

Everyone I blog with has already been tagged. :(

Myths and stereotypes

As Americans we are probably the worst people to stereotype others. I try not to do it but sometimes it just happens. Like when you see a policeman in a doughnut shop drinking coffee. You know they hang out there all day. Do you ever hear of anyone robbing a doughnut shop? Well I did one time but it was a place down in Jacksonville Florida and it was a topless doughnut shop so the police weren't allowed to go there. I always wanted to try their coffee. Wait where was I?

Oh yes the stereotypes. Yesterday, I was asked to give some executives from Japan a tour of the plant. I met them and went to shake their hands and one of them just bows. So I bow back. Was that proper? Who knows? Anyway I start the tour and yes you guessed it, one of them asks if he can take pictures. Do these guys take pictures of everything? All 4 of them had cameras. Enough said about that.

OK the myth. I have always heard that "they" are small in certain areas. I don't know where that came from, perhaps the same place that "blacks are bigger" started, who knows but I tell you I have heard it. Anyway, after the tour, I am handed a thank you present. It is a long cloth pouch looking like some kind a warmer or something and I am thinking wow what a nice gift although I hardly know them well enough to take something so personal. Well they leave and after examining this pouch, I am very flattered with the length (12") but it is only about 3/4" across. I am trying not to get insulted and thinking, it's going to be a tight fit but then......never mind bad joke. I am pleased though that they gave me any gift so I show it to a co-worker and she says "what a pretty chop stick holder" Oops my mistake.

Have a great day,

Blonde moment

I must be really tired today. I didn't get much sleep last night and I am having trouble staying awake. So like any good employee, I decided to blog hop a while. So I go to visit queenie and one of the things I like about her blog is the video that she has playing. Actually I love everything about her blog. Well I had my sound turned down because I was listening to Cora yesterday of Maydens Voyage fame. She has this really great video of herself telling a joke and I needed laugh. In fact I need another one so I will go listen to her tell it again. Anyway. This video starts playing and for some reason a song came on the radio in my office that was pretty loud. So I am watching the video and listening to the radio and trying to get the two to synchronize but it aint working. I had the radio on a easy listening station and they were playing a cross over country song but the video had a black man singing. I am thinking to myself. Wow the next Charley Pride. Duhhhhhhhh Ok I am awake now. Have a great day,

Father knows best

Two nights ago, my son and I were driving home and ran up behind a car that was going slow. It was going 45 in a 55 mph zone. There was a double solid yellow line so I couldn’t pass so I backed off a little. The car slowed down a little more and my son asked what was up with that guy. Due to my many years of driving experience, I told him that he was getting ready to turn. This is something that I learned over the years about the driving habits of people on our island. Anyway, my son said since he is turning, why don’t you just shoot around him. I explained that he might be turning left and he would love to hit me as I passed on a double yellow line so he could sue me and get a new car. Finally he put on his right turn signal and I still didn’t pass and my son (who just got his learners permit and also knows everything) began to get exasperated and said pass him Dad. I just smiled and said lets not be hasty. The car slowed to almost a dead stop and then turned LEFT and I said see why I didn’t pass. I hope he remembers that lesson. He won't. Have a great day.

Either everyone is on holiday or I said something bad. I guess I need to post some more humerous stuff. Hope I didn't offend anyone.

Why speed?

I can't for the life of me understand why everyone is in such a hurry to get to work. I get up early and then head out early and drive at a safe rate of speed to work. Everyone says I drive like a little old lady because I stay close to the speed limit. Now before you get upset with me, I don't drive under the speed limit but just a little bit over it. For instance, if the speed limit is 60, I may go 63 or 64. I am not one of those that drives 55 in a 60 mph zone.

Now on the way home, I go however fast traffic is going. I do want to get home. I am just not that interested in getting to work. Here is something to think about for all you speeders out there. Ever wonder how those little old ladies got to be so old?

Hail to the Chief

Let me start out by saying that I am not officially throwing my hat in the ring. I am just saying that based on what I have seen from the other candidates, I could do just as well.

Everyone needs an angle and a white American male who has no history of politics won’t stand a chance so I am going in as a minority. I know, I know, on the surface I may appear as an American but I am actually Englo-American. Yes it is true and for those that don’t know what that means, let me explain. My ancestors were from England and forced here due to poverty and lack of food. I am claiming the Englo-American status which just means that I will use the American ticket to get what I can from this country but I am holding on to my English status just in case I need an escape route. As far as my past, I will not admit to anything I did prior to this morning.

There are many issues of concern out there but I would keep my platform simple.

1. Military: Bring all of our service men/women back to America. Those people have been killing each other since the beginning or time. Little old America isn’t going to stop that.

2. Taxes: Go to a straight 2% tax. No exceptions. That means a huge tax break for most of us but people like Donald Trump will probably flip their wig. (no pun intended Donald)

3. Crime: Impose strict penalties for criminals. If convicted, criminals will have the option of just leaving the country for good.

4. Complaining: Open the exit Gates. For some reason people like to complain but no one wants to leave. Are the exits closed and I just don’t know it?

5 Welfare: No welfare for anyone capable of working. By the way, everyone can work doing something.

5. Government: Change all legislators from salaried to hourly. This alone will clear the national debt.

6. Clothing: On the issue of thongs. I would make a law that no one could wear a thong if it isn’t visible from the back. Enough said.

I think that covers all the major issues. I will let you know if I decide to run. I would appreciate your vote if I do decide to do it. Also I am taking question on other issues at this time.

You have the right to remain silent

I have seen some thought provoking topics lately and wanted to put one out there myself

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court of law. You have the right to speak with an attorney before questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided to you at no charge.

Most Americans have heard these Miranda Rights before but do you know where the term originated? Probably not, so let me give you the short version. A man named Miranda was arrested in Arizona for kidnapping and rape and he did do it because he confessed to the crime. He had a long history of crimes since the 8th grade. He was sent to prison but the Supreme Court overturned the conviction because he signed a confession, not knowing that he didn’t have to do that. Our 5th amendment to the Constitution says that you don’t have to incriminate yourself if you don’t want to. In other words, you never have to admit that you are guilty even if you are.

Now the rest of the story as Paul Harvey used to say. So you keep your mouth shut about what you did, get a lawyer, force the state to get one, tie up judges, lawyers jurors, court personnel, police witnesses etc etc. and finally get into court. Then they plea bargain and tell you: if you confess, they will give you a lighter sentence. I think that should have been said in the first instance. Here are my new and improved Miranda rights:

You have the right to remain silent and try to beat the system. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court of law. You have the right to speak with an attorney before questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided to you at no charge. However if you decide not to admit to a crime that you did do and are later found guilty, you will have to pay all court costs and compensate everyone involved for the time you wasted. There will be no last minute plea bargaining.
I would also read the following to lawyers: You have the right to represent anyone you choose. However if you discover that a client of yours is guilty and don’t turn them in, and later that client is found guilty, you will split the court costs with your client.

Here are some other rights that we Americans have:

---You have the right to complain about Gas prices while driving alone to work in a car that gets 8 miles to the gallon.

---You have the right to blame everything that is wrong with America on the President even though you never voted.

--You have the right to spend more than you make, quit your job and then ask the government to bail you out.

---You have the right to hate anyone that isn’t like you just because you can.

---You have the right to complain and then never do anything about it.

I hope this didn’t offend anyone. I just wanted to toss our some food for thought today.

Sand Treasures

Just some things I found on the island beach. Remember those old aptitude tests you took back in school? Which photo doesn't belong? Hope you like my photo's

Charleston bridge and USS Yorktown

I quickly took these shots last week while I was in the area. I have a number of photo's that I will be posting in the next day or two. Hope you like them.
