Survival

Image
During my morning walk, ran across a family of geese. It was two adults and 4 little ones. As I approached, they just walked in the other direction. When I got closer, the male flew off and made a lot of racket trying to get me to follow him. I followed the others instead and soon the female flew off making the same noise. When I looked back where the little ones were, then had sat down in the leaves and were hiding. They sat there motionless while I took a picture but the moment I turned my back to walk away then took off and rejoined their parents in the river. It is a great plan unless I was a fox in or a hawk in which case I would have easily been able to pick them out of the leaves. I thought it was a great survival plan anyway. Have a great day, Greg

Is this thing working?

Hello Is anyone out there? Do you ever wonder if anyone is really listening to you? Hello, yes I am talking to you. I do wonder about this a lot. I know sometimes when someone is talking to me I will tune them out and not really listen. I don’t do that when it is something important though only when it is useless dribble. You know when it gets to that blah blah blah stage. I have been dealing with this eye/stress problem for about 6 months now and telling everyone I know about it. The strange thing is it started right after I had a tooth surgically removed. Everyone said I was crazy for trying to tie the two things together but I had a gut feeling they were connected. So yesterday I had a free moment and I again for the umpteenth million time did a Google search to try and self diagnose my problem. I stumbled across the web page about TMJ and guess what? It listed all my symptoms and said they could be caused by jaw misalignment from an oral surgery. Hmmmm didn’t I say that three month

Memorial Day

I hope everyone has a great weekend but please remember the reason for this day off. Many kids today don't know what it means except a three day weekend. I took the boat out yesterday and had engine trouble. I left my depth finder at home and ran up on a sand bar and may have stripped a gear. Ouch. Now in my attempt to be positive, you might say I just lost that battle. There I was, drifting down the river and of course no one stops to help. (I picked a heck of a time to give up booze) I go to get my oars and guess what, they were at home too. I managed to get to the bank and walked the boat along until I got to a dock and then went up to ask for help. The man drove me back to the landing and I drove home and got my other boat and then took my BIL who has cancer with me and we towed the other one back home. So where is the sunshine you might ask? Well while I was gone, the couple asked my wife to come up and sit on the porch. It turned out they were an older couple, in their upper

One of Life's mysteries

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of participating in a team building exercise. Go team!!! Yea. How did that sound? Pretty impressive I'm sure. Anyway, it turned into a gripe session but I did learn that we all have one common complaint. We all hate having to deal with ignorant people. Don't hate me for saying that. I am not talking education here, I am talking about those people that shouldn't be allowed to breed. You all know the ones. As the saying goes, "The gene pool could use a little chlorine" So what tops my list? Bad drivers. This morning on the way to work, this car approaches me from behind at a very rapid speed. I was driving 60 in a 55 zone on a dark, foggy, deer populated road. So this person gets right behind me and of course he has his bright lights on but he refuses to pass. A second before he was in a big hurry but now he is content to follow me and blind me with his headlights. This guy follows me for about 5 miles with many chances to pass. Then

Don't quote me

One of my favorite things to do is to reuse quotes from old movies. I like doing this because I can say something in jest and quote from a movie and if the person gets offended I just laugh it off as a joke. For example: When one of my kids messes up, instead of yelling at them, I usually say: “There's no way, that you came from my loins. Soon as I get home, first thing I'm gonna do is punch yo mamma in da mouth.” When my boss expects me to do something without telling me what I am supposed to do and later get mad at me for not doing it, I say: “What we have here is a failure to communicate.” When my dear wife gets mad at someone and wants my opinion on what to do, I usually say: “let’s give em the old number 6.” And when someone gets angry at me and throws a fit, I usually sarcastically say: “Lighten up Francis” You have to guess the movies though. I also hate clichés and not just because I can’t spell the word. (thank you spell check). I often misquote them just to pick at pe

The Education Meme

Tina tagged me with this so let me see what I can do. I think I am already behind in one assignment and I promise to catch up on all my lessons. What was the name of the teacher that was most influential in your life from grades K through 6? That would be my first grade teacher Mrs. White. I remember her being so nice and sweet and she made me feel comfortable being in school. What subject did you favor in high school? I loved math. We had a really strict teacher and everyone except me hated her. She would move along so fast that it was all I could do to keep up but I really enjoyed the challenge. I remember she would finish a lesson and say “moving along” and every hand in the class would go up. She gave us 15 minutes at the end of the class to start our homework and I would always finish mine. Then the others would copy it on the bus ride home. It was the only way I had to make friends. Did you attend a university and if so, did you attain a degree? No and No. Do you learn best throu

Myths and stereotypes

As Americans we are probably the worst people to stereotype others. I try not to do it but sometimes it just happens. Like when you see a policeman in a doughnut shop drinking coffee. You know they hang out there all day. Do you ever hear of anyone robbing a doughnut shop? Well I did one time but it was a place down in Jacksonville Florida and it was a topless doughnut shop so the police weren't allowed to go there. I always wanted to try their coffee. Wait where was I? Oh yes the stereotypes. Yesterday, I was asked to give some executives from Japan a tour of the plant. I met them and went to shake their hands and one of them just bows. So I bow back. Was that proper? Who knows? Anyway I start the tour and yes you guessed it, one of them asks if he can take pictures. Do these guys take pictures of everything? All 4 of them had cameras. Enough said about that. OK the myth. I have always heard that "they" are small in certain areas. I don't know where that came from, p

Blonde moment

I must be really tired today. I didn't get much sleep last night and I am having trouble staying awake. So like any good employee, I decided to blog hop a while. So I go to visit queenie and one of the things I like about her blog is the video that she has playing. Actually I love everything about her blog. Well I had my sound turned down because I was listening to Cora yesterday of Maydens Voyage fame. She has this really great video of herself telling a joke and I needed laugh. In fact I need another one so I will go listen to her tell it again. Anyway. This video starts playing and for some reason a song came on the radio in my office that was pretty loud. So I am watching the video and listening to the radio and trying to get the two to synchronize but it aint working. I had the radio on a easy listening station and they were playing a cross over country song but the video had a black man singing. I am thinking to myself. Wow the next Charley Pride. Duhhhhhhhh Ok I am awake no

Father knows best

Two nights ago, my son and I were driving home and ran up behind a car that was going slow. It was going 45 in a 55 mph zone. There was a double solid yellow line so I couldn’t pass so I backed off a little. The car slowed down a little more and my son asked what was up with that guy. Due to my many years of driving experience, I told him that he was getting ready to turn. This is something that I learned over the years about the driving habits of people on our island. Anyway, my son said since he is turning, why don’t you just shoot around him. I explained that he might be turning left and he would love to hit me as I passed on a double yellow line so he could sue me and get a new car. Finally he put on his right turn signal and I still didn’t pass and my son (who just got his learners permit and also knows everything) began to get exasperated and said pass him Dad. I just smiled and said lets not be hasty. The car slowed to almost a dead stop and then turned LEFT and I said see why I

Was it something I said

Either everyone is on holiday or I said something bad. I guess I need to post some more humerous stuff. Hope I didn't offend anyone. Greg

Why speed?

I can't for the life of me understand why everyone is in such a hurry to get to work. I get up early and then head out early and drive at a safe rate of speed to work. Everyone says I drive like a little old lady because I stay close to the speed limit. Now before you get upset with me, I don't drive under the speed limit but just a little bit over it. For instance, if the speed limit is 60, I may go 63 or 64. I am not one of those that drives 55 in a 60 mph zone. Now on the way home, I go however fast traffic is going. I do want to get home. I am just not that interested in getting to work. Here is something to think about for all you speeders out there. Ever wonder how those little old ladies got to be so old?

Hail to the Chief

Let me start out by saying that I am not officially throwing my hat in the ring. I am just saying that based on what I have seen from the other candidates, I could do just as well. Everyone needs an angle and a white American male who has no history of politics won’t stand a chance so I am going in as a minority. I know, I know, on the surface I may appear as an American but I am actually Englo-American. Yes it is true and for those that don’t know what that means, let me explain. My ancestors were from England and forced here due to poverty and lack of food. I am claiming the Englo-American status which just means that I will use the American ticket to get what I can from this country but I am holding on to my English status just in case I need an escape route. As far as my past, I will not admit to anything I did prior to this morning. There are many issues of concern out there but I would keep my platform simple. 1. Military: Bring all of our service men/women back to America. Those

You have the right to remain silent

I have seen some thought provoking topics lately and wanted to put one out there myself You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court of law. You have the right to speak with an attorney before questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided to you at no charge. Most Americans have heard these Miranda Rights before but do you know where the term originated? Probably not, so let me give you the short version. A man named Miranda was arrested in Arizona for kidnapping and rape and he did do it because he confessed to the crime. He had a long history of crimes since the 8th grade. He was sent to prison but the Supreme Court overturned the conviction because he signed a confession, not knowing that he didn’t have to do that. Our 5th amendment to the Constitution says that you don’t have to incriminate yourself if you don’t want to. In other words, you never have to admit that you are guilty even if you are. Now the rest
