Thankful Thursday. Praise you in the Storm.

I am sure I could find lots of things to complain about today. But there are enough people complaining so I will do just the opposite and say Thanks. It is Thankful Thursday and I again have a lot to be thankful for. This past week we have been hit with violent storms every day. Our power has gone out numerous times and we had had to “rough it” and go without air conditioning for hours and hours in 90 Degree weather with 100% humidity. So the first thing I am thankful for is air conditioning. I am thankful that I live in a country where I have electricity (most of the time) and have the ability to turn on an air conditioner and cool off whenever I want to. Many years ago we visited the Dominica Republic. Down there, to save electricity, they simply turned off power to residential areas during peak hours. So every day from about 1:00 to 4:00, the power went off. I wonder what people here would do if that were the case? I can hear the screaming now. Number two on my list are the storms....

Earth Day Challenge

Yo, check this out. Well that's how my day started. And it just got better from there. We participated in Earth Day at Bon Secours Hospital and it was a blast. Everyone was very interested in ways to save, recycle and grow their own. Tomatoes that is. We just about gave away tomato plants along with pots filled with potting soil and a stake to tie up your tomatoes. It was a big hit. We also gave away day lilies and then sold our other plants. We had a great day and it was very rewarding. In addition we met some really great people. I hope we get asked to do it again next year. Well I am tired and looking forward to going to bed early. I hope you enjoyed the video. As soon as I connect with the girl that organized the event, I will get some photos to post. I was so busy talking with people that I didn't have time to take photos myself. Oh and in case you couldn't tell in my video those little things I had in my hand were turtles that we got when we were in Mexico. Have a gre...

It's a Birds Life

Image
This morning when I went outside it reminded me of a scene from that old horror movie; The Birds. There were literally thousands of birds in our yard. There were blue jays, cardinals, finches, ladder back's and some things that I didn't recognize. However cow birds made up the majority. Well I don't discriminate when it comes to feeding birds so I filled the feeder and let them have at it. Now you would think that birds would be afraid to come around here because we have cats. However out of the 4 cats that we have, only one likes to get birds and the others are more like this one: "Please wake me when it is time to eat." So here are some of the other birds that were in the yard this morning. "Do you mind. We are trying to eat here." This cardinal was acting shy. He is in the previous picture but he is hiding. This is inside my greenhouse. I was going to try to get a picture of the resident Carolina Wren but he too left before I could take the photo. Y...
