Memorial Day
I hope everyone has a great weekend but please remember the reason for this day off. Many kids today don't know what it means except a three day weekend.
I took the boat out yesterday and had engine trouble. I left my depth finder at home and ran up on a sand bar and may have stripped a gear. Ouch. Now in my attempt to be positive, you might say I just lost that battle. There I was, drifting down the river and of course no one stops to help. (I picked a heck of a time to give up booze) I go to get my oars and guess what, they were at home too. I managed to get to the bank and walked the boat along until I got to a dock and then went up to ask for help. The man drove me back to the landing and I drove home and got my other boat and then took my BIL who has cancer with me and we towed the other one back home.
So where is the sunshine you might ask? Well while I was gone, the couple asked my wife to come up and sit on the porch. It turned out they were an older couple, in their upper 70's, had lost one son to leukemia, Had a daughter with mental problems and another son who moved away and were left there very lonely. My wife was the only visitor they had had in a long while and they really enjoyed the visit. My youngest son caught a nice fish off their dock too. This man was also a WW2 Veteran. So despite my boat troubles we met some really nice people and really made their day.
Blessed Memorial Day everyone.
