Answers to yesterdays questions/Project Green

In the first picture, there are the following shells: Oyster, coquina, Anger wing, Razor, clam, cockle and scallop. There are also three crab shells. One is from a Sargasso crab and the other two are from spider crabs.

The second picture is of a Horseshoe crab. Horseshoe crabs have 10 eyes. They have one main pair on the front of their head like we do but have 4 other pairs on their body. They are used a lot for vision research because of this.

This is the body of a sea urchin. After they die and dry out, this is all that is left. They are a cousin to the starfish and there is a small star on the bottom of the shell.

The last “creature” is my son. He thinks he is a sand crab so he buries himself in the sand.

I am going to start participating in Project Green. I will be posting a green picture every day if possible. With all my gardening going on, this should be easy but I bet it is harder than I think. I tried to upload a picture a moment ago but it wouldn't let me. Must be more blogger problems. I will try again later. I forget the name of this plant but it is very pretty. It keeps coming back every year.

Oh, to be able to go to the beach! Do you have any idea how far I have to drive to get to the beach? It seems I may be smack dab in the middle of the US. Okay, that's not true. I could get to NC beachs in about 15 hours, Panama City Beach in 9 hours, and those are the closest.

Anyway, I have never seen a horse shoe crab. 10 eyes? I just never knew. And, is the sea urchin still able to sting (well, if you step on it's stinger) when it's dead?? That may sound stupid, but you never know unless you ask, right????

Hi Greg! Sounds like you had a great time at the beach. I grew up on the east coast so I pretty much lived at the beach. I found it a very peaceful and serene place and there's nothing better than laying on the sand and listening to the waves and the seagulls above. Great pictures by the way. I miss the ocean.

In the UK the furthest anyone can be from the sea is 75 miles. Bina's comment is mind boggling to me :)
That said, we don't have horseshoe crabs (creepy looking little suckers aren't they?) Are they any good to eat? But I recognised some of your shells and sandy kids are common round here in the summer.

Beautiful clematis vine. I have the same one on my front porch. Yours is alot further developed than mine. We are having a very delayed spring this year and gardening is about three weeks behind!

The legend of Flat Stanley (A Horror Story)

There are a few things in life that upset me: Spiders, rude people, unruly children and spilling my coffee to name a few. But nothing gets my blood boiling faster than hearing the name Flat Stanley. On the surface, Stanley sounds like something innocent, but I am here to tell you that he is evil and has the power to tear your family apart. Flat Stanley was the brain child Dale Hubert, a third grade teacher from Ontario Canada. Back in 1995, he decided to start this project to inflict pain on unsuspecting parents and students as well. The concept is simple: You take a picture of Flat Stanley and decorate it. Then you cut it out and there you have it….Flat Stanley.
