Project Green, Cutting back

I cut this hydrangea way back, in the fall of last year. Now it is full again and looks better than ever. Last year it was wild and gangly looking with some long and some short branches. Since I cut it back, it has gotten full and has a new greener color to it. Sometimes you have to cut back to go forward.

I am also cutting back a number of other things in my life. I already mentioned that I cut way back on any medications I was taking. I still take a low dose aspirin a day but that is about all. I do take supplements like fish oil, flax seed oil, pomegranate and my goji berries. I am feeling better every day and something amazing has happened. My night vision has gotten better. I now drive most of the way to work without my glasses which is something I just couldn’t imagine doing a month ago.

And speaking of driving to work, I am cutting back on my speed. I have dropped my driving speed 5 MPH. I do pick the pace back up if traffic starts to back up but in general, I have slowed down. This has improved my gas mileage and I am back up to around 42 MPG. My family is also trying to combine trips to town so that we cut back on our actual driving. I don’t see many other people slowing down so they must be happy with the new gas prices. For me it makes sense because I save money and also do something for old mother earth.

So what are you doing to help make this planet greener?

Have a wonderful day,
Greg

Way to go Greg for cutting back on your meds and changing to natural supplements instead. Sounds like a good plan.
To help keep this planet greener I've cut down on paper products...for example use cloth napkins instead of paper and use rags for cleaning...use more environmentally safe cleaners, use those energy saving light bulbs, recycle and a lot more.
Good topic.

That's a well rounded Hydrangea!

I'm cutting back on food now that it costs so much. At our garden club lunch yesterday, the speaker passed out a list showing that most of it is contaminated anyway.
Chris: Nice job on the trimming, it's still very Green.

Good for your Greg for doing your part! I switched a lot of my light bulbs to those energy saving ones and it does cut down on the electric bill. Your hydrangea looks great!

See the benefits of pruning! Awesome illustration.

I started recycling all paper, plastic, and metal at the beginning of the year for one of my resolutions. I cut my trash in half!

Cutting back is a wonderful idea Greg. There's always an area in our lives that needs pruning I'm trying to spend less time inside and taking more walks and bike rides.

Way to go !!!! I'm intrigued by night vision improving. May have to give some consideration to Goji, flax and other healthy stuff.

Its' all sounding good Greg...

Well, my new car (even on the occasions that I do go almost 60 to avoid slowing down traffic (or getting hit by the idiots who insist on tail-gating me for not going their 65 mph) is getting a heck of a lot better gas milage than my old buick got. (Up from 18 mpg winter-driving, to 24 mpg winter-driving. I look forward to seeing what the summer milage is like.)

I'm planting my flowers, and planning for growing some of my own veggies, both at my place and with the inlaws.

We've done the CFL change-over. I've changed over MOST of my teflon (as it wore out, not "just because") with cast-iron or stainless steel (and a lot of THAT was hand-me-down from my dad as he's weeding out to move out of state). I've been using cloth (washable) feminine supplies instead of disposable since I got my tubes tied & went off hormonal birth-control. (That was a two-fer, I'm no longer adding to the "drugs" in the water-table, AND I'm not contributing to the land-fill over-flow.) Dish-rags & dish-cloths are used more commonly (though not exclusively) in comparisson to sponges & paper towels. We lower our thermostat in the house while we're gone for the day, and as soon as the temp warms up enough, we'll be turning it off entirely. (And, we only use 500 gal. house-fuel per year anyway.) My hubby's driving my car whenever he can get away with it, instead of taking his gas-guzzling truck everywhere under the sun. As soon as the ground out back thaws enough (and dries up) we'll be erecting a clothes-line tree for drying our clothes most of the time. I'm trying to reuse glass jars (from spaghetti sauce and pickles, esp.) for food storage in the fridge and elsewhere around the house. (Ie: not replacing our plastic-ware as it wears out.) Also as soon as the snow melts, I'll be starting my compost bins and potato bins. (There's too much snow currently where I plan to put my bins.) Probably more things we're doing more lately, or have plans for, but I can't think of them right off.

LOVING the pics of the green growing things!!!! You've got such a green thumb, Greg!!!! Would that more of us had such success in trying to grow such beautiful green things!!! Thanks for sharing the pics with us!
