Merry Christmas

Well it's the day after Christmas and I am back at work. That alone is a Blessing as many people are out of work due to layoffs. We had a wonderful Christmas at our house and it was filled with Peace and Joy. (Unlike the woman who got fired from Lowes for wearing a Christmas lapel pin. More on that in my next post)


I had Christmas Eve off too and we celebrated in the traditional southern fashion. We went fishing. The weather was great and we were totally ready for Christmas so we decided to take the boat out to do a little fishing. Unfortunately, we had boat trouble because the motor didn't want to shift into gear but we were still at the boat landing so we simply reloaded the boat onto the trailer and headed back home to get our smaller boat. It ran a little rough but we did make it to our "Hot spot".


We fished for about an hour and a half and managed to catch 5 fish. They were all "Sheephead" and the biggest one was right at 7 lbs. Looks like the family will be eating fish this weekend. Everyone caught at least one fish and my oldest son caught the biggest one. After we returned home, we cooked up some oysters that were left over from out office Christmas party and they were great. After we finished eating the oysters, we got cleaned up and headed out to church for the Christmas Eve service.





The service was outstanding and it ended with the singing of Silent Night where the only light in the room was from the hundreds of candles. After that we headed home and all went to bed so that we could get up early.


Surprise surprise, everyone slept until 7. We had a wonderful Christmas and everyone got lots of presents. I made ham and cheese omelets for everyone and then we simply enjoyed the day. I fixed a ham for lunch and the weather was so nice that we ate out on the deck. How's that for Christmas weather? I hope everyone had a Very Merry Christmas.

Virginia weather was nice too! I was thinking that while we'll almost never get a white Christmas in the South, at least we get to enjoy all the toys on Christmas Day (like bikes, skateboards, fishing rods, etc.) without waiting for the Spring thaw. So all in all, a good trade off.

So glad you all had a great day! Those fish are huge!

So glad you had a nice Christmas! That fish actually looks happy. I don't think he knows he's been caught. LOL. Enjoy you day and don't work too hard!

You ate on the deck?? We could've/should've done that!

Sounds like you did a lot of celebrating this year! Fishing, oysters, Christmas Eve service...

We went to bed around 3 a.m. on Christmas Eve and woke up at 8 a.m. the next day. (We got to sleep in for a change!) I made homemade waffles, with whipped cream and fresh berries, which were DELICIOUS!!

We also had a wonderful Christmas Day with the family. I love playing with all the kids' toys and playing Christmas songs on the keyboards for my kiddies.

Sounds like a marvelous Christmas Day.... You son's are such handsome boys, or men I should say.

The fish, oh my goodness, I've only seen ones like that in books.
How do they taste?? I love fish, we have it several times a week.

We had a wonderful Christmas Eve Service at our little church, and it concluded with Silent Night and candles....

I have never seen a sheephead fish nor ate one, I would love to try it becuase I love fish, shrimp and everything seafood!! I will admit, I am a tad jealous because I LOVE oysters and would of loved to join in for your Christmas dinner!! YUM-O!!

For us is today the day after x-mas bc ,it is celebrated overhere for two days!

I love to read about your Southern living...
I grow up in the tropics outside and as long as i will life in a city in an apartmentflat i will miss that life.......
My dream is too life oneday at he countryside of Holland and have a house of our own....

That was a good fish catch.....
My family love to eat fish esp Tilapia.....

Your church have the same tradition as mine to sing while everyone holds an burning candle. We only sing than the songs " Morningstar after dark night" and " Honour to God in the highest"!
I always get chills this moment of the service..

I smiled when i read what you make x-mas morning..
My dh's was early awake and makeing omelets with tuna onions and pepper for us...
This year we decide not to go together to church,what we normally do bc my dh's always can't make it for x-mas eve service.
But i was surprised when he entered the house late he said this will be the last year he can do custumors on x-mas eve......!!
Christmas morning i was verry tired.andhad to work second shift with the elderly.
So I celebrated x-mas with the elderly also this year.

Sounds like a nice relaxing day with your family, definately Southern style - lol! If we ate out on our deck, we'd be turning blue from the cold :)

Oh and your omlets sounded yummy. My hubby made his famous homemade waffles! (After the kids opened presents, of course!)

Hi! My name is MyAHDHMe. I used to go and visit my friends blogs and make lots of comments. Then I got so caught up in the business of Christmas that I forgot to relax. So, just thought I'd pop in and introduce myself!

My grandfather ran a party fishing boat and I used to help him sometimes. (Chesapeake Bay). I've never seen or heard of Sheephead, but those of HUGE!

The oysters remind me that my other grandparents used to make homemade oyster stew every New Year's Day. My grandmother could cook better than ANYONE I have ever known!

Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas!! HO ho ho ho ho....(I can do a pretty good Santa imitation myself!).

The legend of Flat Stanley (A Horror Story)

There are a few things in life that upset me: Spiders, rude people, unruly children and spilling my coffee to name a few. But nothing gets my blood boiling faster than hearing the name Flat Stanley. On the surface, Stanley sounds like something innocent, but I am here to tell you that he is evil and has the power to tear your family apart. Flat Stanley was the brain child Dale Hubert, a third grade teacher from Ontario Canada. Back in 1995, he decided to start this project to inflict pain on unsuspecting parents and students as well. The concept is simple: You take a picture of Flat Stanley and decorate it. Then you cut it out and there you have it….Flat Stanley.
