Happy St. Patrick's Day

I have a confession. I don't know who St. Patrick is. If I had to guess I would say that he is the patron saint of green beer but I really don't know. Heck I don't know why they say patron saint for that matter. Isn't a patron someone who is buying something? That would mean a patron saint is a saint that is buying something so St. Patrick would be the Saint of buying green beer. It all makes sense now. So when is St. Matthiew's Day?

I just heard on the radio that they closed the schools in Savannah Ga today for the big celebration so he must have been someone really special. Anyone who lives around here knows that Savannah is the place to go to celebrate St. Patrick's day. That's why we stay away. I can't take seeing someone else get sick. Apparently Savannah is the place to get sick on St. Patrick's day. Sounds like fun doesn't it.

I also don't know why people pinch you if you don't wear green. But not wanting to get pinched, I did bring a green St. Patrick's day badge to wear. The real reason that I wore it today was to drive the guys that I work crazy. It is macho city where I work and these guys worry too much about being masculine. If you dare wear pink in to work, I think they take you out back and beat you. Just another guess but I would bet on that one.

Now as for the Biscuit recipe. Let me give it to you straight. Basically they are little omelets in regular biscuits. I simply made omelets with fried ham chunks, mushrooms and cheese. I made them about 3 inches wide and 12 inches long and then cut them into 3 inch by 3 inch squares and put them on lightly buttered biscuits. Man I could go for one of those right about now. If you make them today, make sure and add green food coloring.

Three hours until lunch time. I am never going to make it. Is anyone else hungry?

I love your thoughts on St Patricks Day. If the real St Patrick were alive (he was a missionary) he would croak when he found out what we've done to "celebrate" him. But the kids love getting to wear green to school (They were uniforms, so this is a thrill.)

I'm Catholic and should know this all I can remember is he is the patron saint of Ireland. I know he was captured by some warring factions and forced into slavery and then escaped and became a missionary.

I look at it as a reason to have some fun, wearing green and watching people pretend to be Irish for a day. Have a green beer for me - I'm not a beer drinker = )

I'm not a St. Patrick's day fan, even though I'm Irish. I hate getting pinched! I don't have enough green in my wardrobe and for some reason everyone tells me my green eyes don't count. Boo. Bring on Easter!

the kids are safer @ home in Savannah on this day...too many imbibing adults don't mix well with school buses and crosswalks.

i'm definitely going to do the omelet biscuit from now on. I thought it was going to be one of those dishes you bake, but this is even easier! thank!!

We did a study on St. Pat a couple of years ago in our homeschool (that's how I learn most of the stuff I know!)

St. Patrick was a missionary who took the Gospel to Ireland. Doesn't it make sense now that the holiday is associated with beer?? About as much as Santa with Christmas, but I digress.

Your omelet biscuit sounds scrumptious! I will be trying that sometime sooooooon. :-)

Greg, just FWIW, St. Patrick was a young British kid kidnapped by some Irish raiders/traders who took him back to Ireland with them, and sold him as a slave to some Irish folks. While in Ireland he learned about the Christian God from a Monk, and when he eventually escaped/was set free, he took Christianity back to England with him. After a while in England with his folks again, he decided to go BACK to Ireland, as a free man, and help spread Christianity to those who hadn't yet heard. He is credited with "driving the snakes out of Ireland", but these snakes are a symbol for the indigeonous Goddess-worshiping Pagan religions. So, essentially he's credited with being the REAL reason Ireland is Christian, rather than the original Irish Monk who taught Patrick about Christianity in the first place. Whether or not you believe the stories, it's certainly much more interesting than simply green beer and shamrocks. (The shamrocks, FWIW, are considered a symbol for the Trinity, the 3 lobes each representing a different aspect of God, the Father, The Son or the Holy Ghost. 3 lobes but considered one leaf. 3 aspects of God, but just one God. Again, interesting once you really get into the history and meaning behind the pomp and nonsense of the "modern" holiday.)

So this is a recipe for Green Eggs and Ham?

A patron saint is a saint who is considered to be a defender of some group or nation. So it used to be Ireland and now it's beer.

I don't really do anything with St Patrick's Day myself, but I am part Irish. I even have a four leaf clover (somewhere).

Your reasons for staying away from the "Celebrations" is the same one that we have for staying away from the celebrations here.
When you really understand who St. Patrick was, then you can understand why these celebrations make some people SICK, as would they him!!

The legend of Flat Stanley (A Horror Story)

There are a few things in life that upset me: Spiders, rude people, unruly children and spilling my coffee to name a few. But nothing gets my blood boiling faster than hearing the name Flat Stanley. On the surface, Stanley sounds like something innocent, but I am here to tell you that he is evil and has the power to tear your family apart. Flat Stanley was the brain child Dale Hubert, a third grade teacher from Ontario Canada. Back in 1995, he decided to start this project to inflict pain on unsuspecting parents and students as well. The concept is simple: You take a picture of Flat Stanley and decorate it. Then you cut it out and there you have it….Flat Stanley.
