Book Report (The Five Love Languages)

My wife and I both finished reading the book “The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman. If you remember I won the book over at Truth for the Journey. I had heard of this book and from what everyone told me it was a “must read” for anyone who is married. After reading the book, I have to agree.

My wife and I have been married for almost 28 years. You can take off the “almost” come this Friday by the way. Anyway after that many years, you would think that we would know just about all there is to know about the other person wouldn’t you. Well that is mostly the case except when it comes to communicating to one another. The truth is we each speak different Love Languages and so our communicating over the years has often been non-communicating.

After I read the book it was obvious that my primary Love Language is “Words of Affirmation” followed by “Physical Touch”. My wife on the other has “Quality Time” as her primary Love Language followed several of the others. I guess women are just more complicated than men. Who would have thunk it? Anywho….

I highly recommend this book to any couple whether married or just dating. We have already taken some of the things in this book and put them into practice with positive results. We may just turn into love birds again. I put that in to gross my sons out. They hate that kind of talk.
We had a wonderful weekend by the way and got in some Quality Time yesterday. See you can teach an old dog new tricks. I got in a great workout this morning and changed it up a bit by upping the level of intensity on the machine I was on and did a sprint type workout.

Let’s all have a great week,

Hubz and I finished the Love and Respect book long ago and haven't found another to do together, so maybe it should be this one. I've heard of it, but hadn't been thinking of it as the next read for us. We do well reading stuff like this together. I know his love language will have something to do with wanting me to work side by side him on projects around the house, mostly just handing him tools and not messing things up and mine will be the constant need for him to tell me how great I am and how wonderful all my ideas are and what a special person I am and the like. Do you think I should still just read the book w/him? Probably wouldn't hurt. Congrats on all those years of marriage! It's a beautiful thing.

I continue to be impressed w/all your working out progress, btw. I mostly ate cake this weekend.

How funny, my LL is the same as your wife's and my hubby's LL(s) are the same as yours. Men & women truly are wired differently!

Happy early anniversary!!! Congrats on 28 wonderful years!

If only I could get him to read a book. I think A.J. REALLY needs to read this book. Hmmm isn't Father's Day coming up soon?

I love this book and do think it is so neat. My husband's language is acts of service, and mine is words of affirmation. So yay for you & Mrs. Greg! And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Happy Anniversary Greg and the Mrs.! (We're doing 25 years on the 16th) I'm so glad you're grossing out the's a parental duty! I'm impressed you read the book (many men wouldn't), and are putting it to work for you. Have a great week! You'll have to post regular photos of yourself so we can still recognize you in a few months. =)

I need to get that book. Ok I'm not married or dating but I enjoy learning as much as I can about how God designed me. Books like that also help to understand other people in general even if they aren't your spouse.

Happy Anniversary!! Have a great week!

Glad to see you're still hanging in there with the working out.

So glad to hear it and I might just have to read this book myself! I learned a few things in training at work (this instructor attends all kinds of seminars and loves to share). Men and Women really ARE different!

Ha ha at embarassing the boys!

Happy Anniversary! My husband and I will celebrate on the 12th of this month. I have read the 5 love languages and mine is acts of service and his is 'gifts'. For those that keep saying they were wanting to buy it - it is also out at the library, which is where I was able to read my copy. It was so interesting to read about the couples who were on the brink of divorce all because they expressed love differently. Also, it's not just for husbands and wives - I think it works the same for children and parents as well. We all need to feel loved - in our own way.... Thanks Greg!!

Read the books year ago, and it really helps a person understand why we relate and communicate in certain ways...

You are I are the same... My hubby is more like your wife in the quality time.. and others.

So Greg, you are the greatest, and here's a ((((hug))))! Please return the favor... (((smile)))

I read that book too eons ago! How nice you both did it together and are trying some of it! Now that is romantic!!
We've been married 32 years and still are discovering things we didn't know about each other as new situations arise. But that is what keeps it interesting!
BTW--my husband loved your golf comment! He got his lowest score ever yesterday and I don't think I will hear the end of it.

Happy 28th Anniversary this Friday!!!!!!
You've got us beat by a few years. Our 26th will be in November.
I've heard of that book, but I've not read it. My hubby reads a LOT, so he most likely has read it.
I agree that we can always learn new things to improve our marriages. I hope you keep enjoying Quality Time with your sweetie.
