My plans have changed.

Well I had plans on working all weekend but those plans were changed for me on Friday afternoon. About 5 minutes before I left work on Friday, my boss called me to tell me that they wouldn’t be needing my services all weekend. It seems that my schedule was so good that it could stand on its’ own. So there went 20 hours of overtime that I had planned on. And all those plans that my family made around my overtime were also changed.

When I got home on Friday, I found out that the riding mower had quit working. How bad could it be I thought. 10, 20, 30 dollars to fix? Well we are talking $300.00 just for the parts. But at least I have the ability to do it myself. I am sure it would be around $500.00 to take it in somewhere. And the sad part is I could buy a new one for about $900.00. But wait, I just found someone selling the part I need on Craigslist for $40.00. Keep your fingers crossed for me please.

Saturday, I went to the market since I wasn’t working at my regular job (as planned). My wife was going to fill in for me at the market but because I was off, I decided to go there instead. It was a slow day at first but the weather was about perfect so people finally came out in masses. We were doing pretty well too but them my son started feeling badly so we had to leave early. I hated to leave early but seeing him turning green was making me feel sick. And I did start to feel sick myself later that evening.

Even though I was feeling a little under the weather, we managed to go to church. I did make it a point to keep my distance from other people and I only shook one person’s hand during the meet and great part. He looked pretty healthy. The message was about finding what you are good at, taking time to listen to God’s directions and then going forth and doing. It could also been “let God do the planning, we should be doing.” Hey that doesn’t’ apply to me.

Next up on the weekend plans, we decided to go fishing. I went down and got bait and them started to get the boat cleaned and ready. One of the nice things about where we live is that you can catch our own bait less than a mile from our house. If you want to see some photos where I get my bait, check out my Examiner web page.

As I usually do, I decided to give the motor a try just to make sure everything works before I get to the boat landing. (This is something a lot more people should do) Anywhoo, I turned the ignition switch and “click click click.” Oh noooo dead battery, Change of plans again. But I am determined to go out in the boat so I pushed onward. I put the battery on the charger and we hung out at home for a short while. Finally after about an hour we were ready to go.

We got to the boat landing, and the motor started right up. Whoo Hoooo, I love it when a plan comes together. So I go to put the motor in gear and nothing happens. It won’t shift into forward or reverse. I knew what was wrong though (it’s a long story and it deals with procrastination) and after a few minutes were ready to take off. So we head out down the river and I notice that the streering is very loose.

I look back and see hydraulic fluid leaking from the steering cable. So we decided to stay close to the boat landing and try to salvage what was left of the fishing trip. We barely made it back to the landing with any streeing at all.
I think God had other plans for me this weekend. What do you think?

Have a great day,
Greg

Wow. you first pack a lot in for a weekend:) And you also seem to take all those setbacks in stride! That's the way to get through them. But don't remind me when it's my turn:))

I'm studying the picture. Blue swordfish jumps up to you and you catch it? Or blue steering fluid or whatever that leaking fluid was, gathers itself together and leaves the water in the shape of a fish attempting to give back to you what you lost in leakage?

I don't know.

Time to go write on the Happiness blog, I'm thinking.

Greg,

It would be hard to try and find the positive in all that chaos but I am glad that you at least got some fishing in. What is in that picture???

Sorry that your plans didn't work the way you wanted and there is always more weekends to plan around and more overtime in the future.

Hold on to that hope!

Oh Greg, I know how you feel I had one of those 2 weeks ago, everything i did or touched went sour, and yes I think he was telling me something as well. I am sorry that your plans went sour too... This weekend we tried going out fishing, but the storms were so bad and the water was so churned up couldn't feel the fishies biting, they kept stealing the bait. My husband has been learning how to throw a cast net, he's all excited about it now, and wants a bigger cast net. Looks as though you throw it pretty good yourself. :)

I have my fingers crossed on the parts being the right ones!

Trying to decide whether we are going to Savannah or Charleston for our anniversary. Would definitely love to come back to the Market again!

I always used to laugh at people who would take their boat out and then scratch their heads when the motor wouldn't crank and they already had it in the water!

I like that.

Cool picture too!

You know what I like about you Greg? You're a quick study. LOL!

I'm so sorry that the weekend didn't go as you planned. That is so frustrating. And yet, you are probably right about God trying to redirect your weekend.

I would have loved to hear the message at your church on Sunday. Do they post the sermons on the website?

Enjoy the rest of the week. I hope you got the part you needed from craigslist.

Keep up the positive attitude. If God is redirecting your plans, he surely has a reason.

Greg - I am so sorry for the troubles you had this weekend, but Praise God you made it through!

Praying that the part is the right one for the mower!
Whoa what a weekend. You sound like you do very well with plan changes, unlike some of us who may find that a bit challenging! Did you get the $40 part?
We've had to suspend meet and great at our church due to flu outbreaks...miss it!

Wow, yes a change of plans and unplanned challenges and blessings. Life is interesting, huh? I often tell myself when one plan doesn't work out well, to hold on... a better day (weekend) is due! Thanks for stopping by,
Laurie (I'm learning to get the message too--- slow down and listen to God:)

It seems you were able to keep a good attitude despite your setbacks! Most likely it was your "God attitude" that kept you from losing it! I know I would have been in a sour mood!

Hope you're feeling better! I've been sick for a week and have been ignoring my blog!

Blessings, Leslie
