Black Friday (Deal or no deal?)
Well before I get into the living hell that is also known as black Friday, let me start with my Thankful Thursday from last week. I have been so busy with the holidays and family issues that I haven’t had time to visit many of your blogs so I am not even sure if Sonya did a Thankful Thursday but I am going to chime in with one myself anyway.
I started out my Thanksgiving with the Turkey Day 5K Run in downtown Charleston. I am happy with my time which was around 30 minutes. I don’t know what the exact time was though because they only had a timer at the finish line. For some of us it took about two minutes to get to the starting line so my time of 32 minutes is a little off. There were over 4 thousand people running this race and I finished around 2200.
I am thankful that at my age I can still run three miles at around a 10 minute mile. I will do better next year.
On the way to the race I had more animals run out in front of me. This time it was 5 wild turkeys. I was thinking: Um guys do you know what day it is? I am thankful that I didn’t hit a turkey on the way to the turkey day run.
After the race, I came right home and checked on the turkey which was in the grill. It looked great and was ready for browning so I took off the aluminum foil. When I returned to baste it, the gas had just run out. Talk about good timing. I was able to turn on the oven and move the turkey just in time to save it. I am thankful for great timing on my part.
I am thankful for being able to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family. There were many times when I was in the Navy that I spent the holidays away from home and those times weren’t quite so memorable.
I am thankful for being able to say Grace during dinner. In some countries it is against the law to pray or say a blessing.
All in all it was a great day with very few exceptions. We did make a trip to K-mart after my afternoon nap to check on a TV. We got an ad that said they had a TV we wanted on sale. When we got there we found out that each store only had two or three TV’s and they were all gone. So On Friday we braved the dreaded Walmart at 4 am but we did get our TV for about a hundred dollars less than at K-Mart. So I wasn’t mad anymore. We also got a ton of small appliances at Target and some other presents at some other stores. I think we saved over 500 dollars on early bird specials so it was worth it to get up at 3 am. So did anyone else brave the crowds at 5 am on Friday or am I the only crazy one around here?
Have a great week,
Greg

Didn't go out early--we went out at 9am to a few stores we knew wouldn't have many crowds and it was nice:)
Blessings, andrea
PS: Congratulations on the race.
Great deals shopping on Friday. I went out to one store, got a few deals but still feel like I spent way too much for stuff.
Take care and have a great week!
wish there were pics from the turkeys chasing you...too funny :D
bet your turkey was delish...
Didn't brave the Friday shopping crowd, but am so glad that you got some great deals.
Yes I did go out on Friday and I got everything I wanted to get and am well satisfied with the $ I saved!
yep...that might do it.
Hope the turkey turned out great!
Hey congrats on the run! That's great! I've never been much of a runner but I have always been a walker and used to walk a mile in about 15-20 min. My first walk-a-thon was with March of Dimes. I walked 25 miles in 8 hours. Sure wish I could do that again.
Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving!
We had a nice Thanksgiving although it was emotionally difficult being the first one without my Dad.
Have a great week!
