Just my luck, another Random Dozen
1. Do you prefer even or odd numbers? Any particular reason?
I am not sure why but I prefer odd numbers. Perhaps it is because I am an odd person or the fact that I was born on an odd day. Who knows but I am without a doubt an odd number person. My favorite numbers are 1, 3, 5, 7, and 13.
2. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being "not at all" and 10 being Carly Simon-worthy, how vain are you?
I would give myself a 5 but my family would most likely give me a 10. Yes that song IS about me but as I like to say; It aint bragging if you can back it up. Yes I have been to Saratoga and Nova Scotia and I have seen the total eclipse of the sun. So it just could be…..
3. Among these Irish stereotypes, with which do you identify most closely? Talkative, Proud, Inquisitive, Love to party, Hot-tempered.
I am not Irish but my wife is. But more of these fit me than her. I think all 5 fit me. What’s up with that?
4. How lucky do you consider yourself?
Just give me a 10 here. Everyone says I am the luckiest person they have ever met. I have the luck of the Irish. If I go to an event that gives away door prizes, you might as well just give me a prize instead of that little ticket. It will save time. Last week I went to a vendor fair that had door prizes. You guessed it, I won one. But it’s not just winning. I somehow make lucky choices in life. I am not sure how but it just happens.
5. What is the subject of your favorite post that you've written?
“Fishing with Dad.” I will have to go back and see if that was what I named it. It was about going fishing with my father when I was growing up and how much I enjoyed those mornings. He has been gone almost 15 years but I still think about him and those early morning fishing trips.
6. Describe March weather where you live in three words.
Enough rain already!!!!
7. How apt are you at detecting blarney when you hear it? (Smooth talk, flattery)
I am very apt at it and I can tell that you have been known to toss a bit about yourself.
8. How "green" are you, environmentally speaking?
Another high number for me (us). I drive a car that gets 42MPG. I drive slow to save more gas. We recycle, we pick up trash. We rescue animals. We don’t litter. We conserve energy. We try not to use chemicals on the lawn or our plants. etc etc.
9. What is your favorite song this week?
Tough question since I usually listen to the Oldies channel. So I have been listening all morning trying to decide what my favorite oldie might be. Well they finally played one that reminded me of one that I love. They are playing “Hey Jude” by The Beetles. One of my favorite songs which isn’t played very much by the way (wake up DJ’s) is “The Fool on the Hill” also by The Beetles.(off the Magical Mystery Tour album) I could identify with it when I was growing up. (The song not the album, LOL) If you have never heard it, here are the lyrics:
“The Fool on the Hill”
Day after day,
Alone on a hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he's just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,
But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.
Well on the way,
Head in a cloud,
The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him,
or the sound he appears to make,
and he never seems to notice,
But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.
And nobody seems to like him,
they can tell what he wants to do,
and he never shows his feelings,
But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.
Ooh, ooh,
Round and round and round.
And he never listens to them,
He knows that they're the fools
They don't like him,
The fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.
Ooh,
Round and round and round
Can you tell I was depressed when I was young? Actually I grew up in a bad home environment. I didn't have any friends. So I spent a lot of time all alone. I learned to keep quiet and to listen. Because of this, I learned a lot but no one knew how much I knew. So when this song came out it just fit my life. Not to worry. That is all behind me now. Now days, "I walk into a party, like I'm walking into a yacht." See question #2. :)
10. You are walking along and see a coin on the ground. What denomination does it have to be before you will stop to pick it up?
I will pick up a penny if I see one. “Find a penny pick it up, all that day you will have good luck” See question #4.
11. Complete the sentence: "Every time I look outside my window ...."
Every time I look outside my window I want to be out there.
12. What was the #1 song on the day you were born?
It was “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Hayley and His Comets. Did I just date myself or what? For you youngsters, that’s an oldie but a goodie. Just like me.
Have a great day,
Greg

Fishin' with dad -- great memories there. Those are the ones that help me slow down and try to make some with my kids.
These Random Dozen are great.
I think Golden Slumbers is my fave Beatles song...my husband used to sing it to my youngest who was famous for not sleeping. That would do the trick every time. My hubs is a huge Beatles fan.
And #1 made me laugh, since it's the same answer I gave. Must be the butter on our PB's.
Glad your adult years are better than the childhood years.
We only have one life to live here, its a good thing when we can find our own happiness and joy. God is the one who gives me peace and joy!
#1 song when I was born?
Tennessee Waltz.
