Rambling Saturday
It's Saturday morning and I am up and ready for another full day. The sun will be shining soon and the temperature is supposed to be around 70 today. Life is good. However it wasn't my best week. So I decided to get a few things out in the open and behind me. That way I can go forward and be happy today. So I call this post:
The secret to happiness or I would like cheese with this whine.
First off this is not a complaint this is a whine. There is a difference. When you complain you expect some action to be taken. When you whine you simply want someone to toss you some cheese and say sorry you are having a bad day, eat this cheese and be quiet.
I have a new motto to live by: “The secret to happiness in not only accepting failure but also embracing it.” You may quote me on that.
Why did it take me so long to figure this out? I mean for my entire life I have struggled to succeed when I tried to accomplish something. And as anyone can tell you, you can’t win them all. There will be failures and the same person usually tells you to deal with it and try harder the next time. But since you can expect more failures it is a pretty grim future: Try harder but expect not to win.
I thought about this during the past week as I listened to some people I work with whining. And that’s when my new slogan hit me. And I thought eureka, I’ve found it. If you learn to embrace failure then you always win. You always hit your mark and you always succeed at failure. And if by chance you luck into a success from time to time, that’s a bonus. Eventually people around you will expect nothing from you and you will have to do nothing. I like the sound of that don’t you? The only problem with this plan is that God doesn't like losers and quitters and I am hoping to get my reward after I leave this earth. So I press onward.
OK this just in. I had a big job that I was working on and doing a great job I might add. But there is a guy here that talks a good talk. He is a self proclaimed expert on the job I was working on so the manager where I work decided to put this guy in charge. The problem is that this guy is all talk but who am I to argue so I let him take the lead. Well I just found out that he overlooked a major part of the job and it will cause a huge delay and lots of extra costs. So do I speak up and bail this guy out or do I let him fall on his face? Decisions decisions. To add to this equation let me back up about 8 years.
This same guy worked for another department. He was in the training department which was where he designated himself as an expert. Anywhoo he was starting a new training program back then and it just happened that I had the first person to go through his new program working for me. But there were no local procedures written so guess who had to write them in order to get this new employee through the program? That’s right me. Well when I sent in the procedures (as required by our company policy), this guy changed the author from my name to his and sent them to every plant in our system and took credit for my work. He most likely got a little bonus for doing a great job. This is a tough decision for me. I will think it over this weekend and decide.
Ok I just came up with a new get rich scheme. I was reading Craigslist earlier and came across the following ad (I am paraphrasing here):
"Wood Wanted"
I have decided to start my lifelong dream and build a boat. I am building it from scratch so I will need some good quality wood to do the project. However I don't have any money or wood so I am asking anyone out there that might have some good quality wood laying around to donate it so that I may realize my lifelong dream. Thank you in advance,
Noah
Ok I made up the name part but the rest is true. I have to give this guy credit for having the faith to start a project with no materials. So I cam up with the following idea and I plan on posting it to Craigslist to see what happens:
"Money Wanted"
I have decided to start my lifelong dream of being a millionaire. However due to taxes, other bills and food, I haven't been able to save any money so far. So if you have some extra cash laying around and want to help me realize my dream please send it to me. Chances are you have always wanted to be rich too but the truth is you probably won't make it to the millionaire status either. But if you help me reach my lifelong goal at least you can say you know a millionaire.

How does that sound? I think it is worth a try.
Ok one last thing. I had this package that I really needed to get by Friday.(yesterday) I ordered it on Tuesday and it was coming from Texas. It shouldn't have been a problem. So on Wednesday I get the UPS notification saying they had the package but on Thursday when I checked UPS had no status. I called the company on Friday and this is what they told me:
Sorry, the package didn't go out because we only had one lock and you ordered two. Ok these locks come as a pair with matching keys not individual so I am thinking someone is fibbing here. Then he said that shipping caught it just before they sent it out and they were supposed to tell me that the item didn't ship. Ok I need some help here from someone who works in shipping.
At what point do you get the UPS tracking number? I mean do you assign the number to a box and then send that number to a customer and then go find the item to ship OR do you put the item in the box, seal it up and then assign the tracking number. Ane what company has the shipping department deal directly with customers? Something smells rotten here. Bottom line is the part isn't coming until next week.
One last thing, I know I said that before. I caved on the work thing and did what was right and told my boss about the problem with the job. Two wrongs don't make a right. I am such a nice person.
Have a great weekend,
Greg

Glad I stopped in today - knew I could get a lift out of your post and I did!
No more whining for me....
I don't know about parts shipping, but this is how it works in my neck of the woods. I go to the UPS site & enter my info & print a label. At that point I could give the recipient the tracking number (I don't, because no one I ship to cares). However, sometimes the boss says - don't ship that out yet - I need to have so & so review it. So it might go out the next day. I don't know when it would show up in UPS's system as a real package - when I print the label, or when they come to pick up the package & use their little scanner. Sounds to me like they had someone else who needed your part & they took your order to fill that person's order after they'd already done the label.
FIND A WAY TO BE THANKFUL FOR YOUR TROUBLES THEN THEY BECOME YOUR BLESSINGS.
(which comes from the Bible's 1 Thessalonians 5:18
"Be thankful IN ALL circumstances for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus."
(NOTICE: DOESN'T SAY "FOR ALL CIRCUMSTANCES")
:)
You are so funny, not sure which post I like the best, Noah or wanna Be Bill Gates! I think they are both promising but Noah's intentions were more honorable plus he was doing God's calling!
I am glad you came through and did the right thing when it came to work, you always do although its fun sometimes to imagine it going all kinds of different ways.
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
You such a nice person, I think I would have let him fall on his face..just being honest :)
Sounds like you're like me - even when I want to do the wrong thing I usually end up doing the right thing in the end. Sometime's it is hard to know for sure what that is though - but now I'm whining...
I've been whining my fool head off over here, so I'm pretty sure I get to be in this club.
Just wanted to say hi and see how you are doing. If you get a chance, please stop by my blog and pick up a prayer button for my wife Kat from Heart to Heart. She is having surgery in Thursday so I am just making sure she is in all of her friends prayers.
Thanks!
