It could only happen ot me.

So there we were on Saturday, on our way home from the marketrday. We were driving along, minding our own business, not hurting anyone. We were on the Island Connector, heading toward James Island. We had a car right on our tail but life was good. As we drove along, I looked in the rear view mirror and said to my son; hey something looks funny with that tarp.

Ok since we take plants to the market we put a 6' by 8' tarp over the truck bed. This keeps the wind from damaging the plants. But to keep it down we usually attach it to the truck body. Well yours truly came up with an easier way to to attach it. Just strap it to the big wooden table that I made. It sounded good. Really. I mean this table weighs about 60 lbs so it was pretty heavy, so what could go wrong?

Have you ever seen one of those drag races where they use the parachutes to stop the cars? Well that's what I saw in the rear view mirror. But our parachute wasn't attached to the truck, just the table. So all of a sudden this tarp blows up like a parachute, and I screamed OMG there goes the table. Now we were doing 55 mph and there was a very small car following close behind me.

So I swerve off the road and as I get in the breakdown lane all I can think of is; Where's the table? I mean I couldn't see it anymore and although the car that was following me too close swerved, it didn't crash. My first impulse was to just step on it and speed off. But then I remembered that the banner from the winery was attached to that table so I had to stop. I figured that it bounced off the bridge into the water.

But after I got off the road, I discovered that the table was still hanging on by a bunji chord. Talk about a stroke of luck. And that is just a sample of what I have been going through lately.

Have a great day,
Greg

This was fun to read, but my stomach was getting a knot until I got to the end....Thank God for bungie cords!
Hi there! I am new to your blog, but just had to tell you, I got a big ol' belly laugh trying to imagine being in the car behind you. That was great!

Would that be 'tarp in the fast lane'? or 'table for higher'? or 'don't follow me I've got a parachute and you haven't'?...D'you know its just as well we have an ocean separating us because with the things that happen to you combined to the things that happen to my family, we'd probably sink any one island!!

bet you were saying your'thank you' prayers for that bungie holding...
so glad no one was hurt

at first, i thought you were going to say the table had caught flight and was causing people to wreck as they watched the table flying across the lanes of traffic...
