Thankful Thursday (digging deep)

Thankful Thursday

I added the digging deep part because Blessings aren't always obvious and sometimes we have to dig deep to find them. They are still blessings. Where do I begin? Today I am reminded of a Jimmy Stewart western I saw once. If I remember correctly he was a single parent in that he had lost his wife for some reason or another. I can’t remember why but for whatever reason she was gone. He had a huge family of boys and they were all seated around the dinner table and the blessing went something like this:

God we thank you for your blessings. We planted these crops, and when the drought came, we hauled water from the stream. When the locusts came we drove them away. We pulled the weeds and kept the cattle out of the fields. We harvested the crops and prepared them for this table. I really don’t know what you had to do with it but we thank you anyway. Amen

Please forgive me I am working from memory and my memory isn’t what it used to be. Does anyone remember what movie that was from? The point is that even though some blessings don’t look like blessings they still are. So here is my list for this Thankful Thursday:

1. I am thankful that even though I lost my temper last night with one of my children, I didn’t resort to violence and no matter how they try my patients, I still love them. (yelling isn’t violence is it)

2. Right now I am very thankful for this great cup of coffee. I didn’t sleep well and it is the only thing keeping me going.

3. I am thankful for teaching myself to type over the years because I am looking at a huge pile of paper work in front of me that has to be done today.

4. I am thankful for my physical results that I will be getting in about two hours. I am assuming here that it will be a good report but even if it isn’t, at least I was still alive to show up for the physical. If the doctor says anything negative I am going to reply: Am I still alive? Then it is a good day.

5. I am thankful that it is payday and I still have a job even though sometimes I wonder if it is all worth it. Somebody tell me it is please.

Well there you have it.

Have a great day,
Greg

That's a great list. Clearly from the heart and isn't that how we're supposed to go before the throne? I especially like the Jimmy Stewart prayer, but don't recall the movie. I'll ask my husband....he probably knows. Blessings, SusanD

Count it all JOY! I praise you God for a good health report for Greg, his family, and his blog. We are thankful he is alive. Most days he doesn't have to dig deep. Your grace and mercy is there for him today and for us. THANK YOU LORD! B

I hope your physical results are all good news. You look pretty healthy to me! :)

You have many things to be thankful for...we all do. Coming from someone who is still unemployed, it's good to be working. Paychecks are a big motivator!!

P.S. Forgot to add...I LOVE Jimmy Stewart and that WAS a funny prayer...I don't remember the movie though!
Terrific list. HOpe the physical results were good! and yes, in this economy especially, whatever it takes for the job is well worth it!
Great list, I hope your physical results were good.
Thanks for joining us for Thankful Thursday, Greg!  Your post sounded theraputic, and I hope it was.  :)Loved your #4. Great attitude no matter what the outcome is.

Take Care,

I really don't think you had to dig as deep as you thought.

Yelling...it's not violence, it's a requirement when living with dainbramaged teenagers. ;-)
I think it was Shenandoah. I've seen the movie. Jimmy Stewart is a favorite of mine; I love classic movies.

I love your thankful list! Yes sometimes we need to dig a little deeper or open our eyes a little wider. Maybe after that cup of coffee. :)

#4 - Love that attitude. I do hope the results were good.
Lid's right...Shenendoah. My sil and I used to buy copius quantities of movie candy, soda, popcorn and Kleenex when we needed a cry-fest. Love it.
Sorry I'm behind reading it. And p.s. great list!

Yes yes, it's all worth it....and that job is definitely worth it in today's economy. There are three of us in our house unemployed...I'm not looking for work but the two guys are not getting anything.
Yep, the movie was Shenandoah. I thought it was going to be a sweet, sappy movie and it wasn't! Quite a shocker. The prayer reminds me of my little one when he was still in a high chair not even talking well. He didn't want to bow his head for the blessing, and I said we needed to thank God for the food He gave to us, and he shook his head "no" and said "Huh-uh, grocery store!" Literal little dude!
